The brief began with a part of the house that had more potential than purpose. Rather than treating the basement as overflow storage, the aim was to turn it into a space that could genuinely earn its place in daily life: somewhere to train, switch off, host friends and keep the practical parts of the house organised.

The completed layout brings together a dedicated home gym, an entertainment room, a shower room and storage for the services that keep the home running. Each part has a clear role, while the overall space still feels connected and easy to move through.

The usable finishes are the part everyone sees, but the success of the finished room also depends on coordinating the less visible decisions: access, storage, lighting, the relationship between rooms and how the new spaces will be used over time.
