Completed stone kitchen extension in Huddersfield

Kitchen extension and utility room

A completed kitchen extension with a bespoke utility room and carefully finished external works.

Project overview

A considered response to the brief.

A kitchen extension has to do more than add floor area. It needs to make the home work better day to day, bring in light, sit comfortably alongside the original building and create a useful connection to the garden. This completed scheme set out to do exactly that, adding a bright new kitchen space while respecting the character of the existing stone property.

The work was delivered as a complete, carefully coordinated package. Alongside the extension, a bespoke utility room with shower facilities created a hard-working support space away from the main kitchen. That separation makes a difference in a busy home: the everyday practical tasks have a place of their own, while the main room remains open for cooking, eating and spending time together.

From the structural work through to the final external elements, attention was given to the points where a new addition meets an established home. The stonework, glazing, paving and levels all need to feel considered as part of the same picture, not as an afterthought once the main construction is complete. The scheme was designed by Eight One Two Architects.

The finished project is a good example of how a modest footprint can have a wide impact on the way a property is used. It creates more than a new room: it provides a clearer daily rhythm, better links between inside and out, and a flexible space for the household to enjoy for years to come.

For clients planning an extension, this kind of joined-up thinking is especially valuable. It keeps the layout, the construction detail and the practical needs of the home in conversation from the start, making it easier to make choices with confidence and arrive at a finished space that feels like it has always belonged there.
